Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know, without the jargon

You certainly can! From your dashboard, go to the Domains page and click Check New at the bottom. Type in the domain name you'd like and we'll check if it's available.

If it's taken, we'll suggest alternatives — different extensions or similar names. Once you find one you like, choose your registration period (1-10 years), set up payment, fill in the contact details, and you're done. The whole process takes just a few minutes.

Your new domain can be connected to your TecNut website straight away, or you can do that later.

Alt tags, or alternative text, are important for web accessibility, providing a text alternative for screen readers. They also enhance SEO by helping search engines understand image content. Alt tags serve as a fallback description in case images don't load and aid browser compatibility. It's crucial to make alt text descriptive and relevant.

Yes - our platform is fully optimised for Google and other search engines. Our onsite coding ensures that you are always at the forefront of Google's algorithms. You can add your own search keywords and customise your meta tags to ensure optimum search engine ranking.

Head to your Settings page (click the gear icon in the dashboard navigation).

To change your email: Click Change Email, enter your new email address, and we'll send a verification code to the new address. Enter the code to confirm the change.

To change your password: Click Change Password, enter your current password and your new one (twice to confirm), then save. Your new password must be at least 8 characters.

You can also update your personal details (name, address, phone) and manage your payment cards from the same page.

Yes, you can do this at any time through your user dashboard. You can change from a single page to a multipage site, or vice versa. You can also add any of the Tec Nut add-ons as they become available.

If you've got auto-renewal turned on (which we recommend), you don't need to do anything — we'll charge your card on file and renew it automatically before it expires.

To check your auto-renewal setting, go to your Domains page, click Manage on the domain, and look for the Auto-Renewal section. Green means auto-renew is on. Red means it's set to expire — you'll need to renew manually.

Important: Auto-renewal only works if you have a valid primary payment card on your account. If your card has expired, update it in your Account Settings.

For external domains (registered with another provider), renewal is handled by your current registrar — not by us.

We update our platform on a regular basis, to ensure that your website is at the forefront of technology. You can view these updates in your admin dashboard.

If a payment fails — usually because a card has expired or the bank declined the charge — here's what happens:

  • For website licences: Your website will be suspended (visitors won't be able to see it), but your content is safe and not deleted. We'll email you to let you know.
  • For domains: If auto-renewal fails, your domain won't renew. You'll get reminder emails, but if it expires your website will stop working at that address.

To fix it: Update your payment card. For suspended websites, go to your Websites page, click Settings, and use the Pay Now button to settle the outstanding amount. Your site will come back online straight away.

If you're having trouble, open a support ticket and we'll help sort it out.

DNS records tell the internet where to send visitors, emails, and other traffic for your domain. Think of them as a phonebook entry — they match your domain name to the right server address.

If your domain is registered through TecNut and connected to a TecNut website, you probably don't need to change anything — we set it up for you.

You might need to edit DNS records if you want to:

  • Verify your domain with Google, Facebook, or another service (they'll ask you to add a TXT record)
  • Set up email with an external provider like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 (you'll need MX records)
  • Point a subdomain somewhere specific (like blog.yourdomain.com)

You can manage DNS records from your domain's management page — click Manage on the domain, then look for the DNS link. If your domain is external (registered elsewhere), you'll need to manage DNS at your current registrar instead.

Not sure what to change? Open a support ticket with the details of what you're trying to set up and we'll help you get it right.
